Dilution
The reduction in ownership as new shares are issued.
Definition
Dilution is the decrease in the percentage ownership of an existing shareholder when a company issues new shares, for example in a funding round or when expanding the option pool. Some dilution is expected with every raise; the goal is for the larger pie to be worth more than the smaller slice you give up.
